CEDETi UC is a leading center for inclusive technological innovation, specializing in the development of educational software, cognitive assessments, and training programs. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of people facing access barriers, promoting equal opportunities through applied research and technological development.
The challenge
Each new version of Sueñaletras involved an extensive and costly development process for each country, since the same word does not necessarily have the same representation in sign language across different regions. This resulted in high costs, long implementation times, and limited scalability to new linguistic communities.
The traditional workflow required requesting all necessary audiovisual resources from foreign institutions in order to build the dictionary, and then integrating, compiling, and distributing an entirely new version of the application.
The solution
At Bengala, a modular ecosystem composed of three interconnected applications was designed:
Sueñaletras Creator: an institution-only tool that allows the creation and management of new Sueñaletras versions according to the sign language of each country.
Sueñaletras API: an intermediate validation system where CEDETi UC reviews and approves content before publication.
Sueñaletras Desktop: the final application aimed at teachers and students, from which different Sueñaletras packages can be easily downloaded and installed.
This modular approach significantly simplified the expansion of the project, drastically reduced the time required to launch new versions, and made it possible to publish updates with new words, providing the platform with high scalability.
Results
The result was a completely renewed application: Sueñaletras version 4, featuring a modern, intuitive design focused on the user experience of both children and teachers.
Its main features include:
Redesigned interface: clearer menus, simplified navigation, and quick access to all modules.
Package management: the ability to select and install versions from different countries from the main menu on a single device.
Integrated resources: activities that combine sign language videos, fingerspelling, lip reading, and text.
Offline functionality: package downloads that allow use without an Internet connection.
The screenshots demonstrate how the application integrates these features into a visually appealing, accessible, and coherent experience for its end users.
Impact
Sueñaletras has consolidated its position as one of the most relevant inclusive educational applications in the region, facilitating access to a more equitable education that adapts to different linguistic and cultural realities.
